This book encourages us to deeply experience our scriptures, and not just read them. In a comprehensive yet readily grasped manner, Gary explains how the authors of our scriptures were in a continual conversation with one another, even those who preceded them by centuries, and that this was done to better comprehend and converse with God. He then goes on to further explain a method that allows each of us to learn the discipline of conversing with Biblical authors, and while doing so to achieve a deeper level of intimacy with God. I highly recommend this book.
There are many books written today about how to get the most out of Bible reading, and I have enjoyed many of them. Gary's The Art of Biblical Conversation is my favorite. This little book inspires you, the reader, to "rise up" and take your place in an engaged conversation that will challenge you and bring out your best as a child of God. It pulls back the cover to show us what is going on with our Biblical authors so that you will want to join them in this sacred Biblical conversation.
It also provides "a way" to get the most out of your relationship with God and the sacred Word he has given us. This is a resource book that will help you discern the will of the Lord as it is revealed in our Bible then see better how to live it out in our day. I highly recommend this book.
"Conversation" was something I was having difficulty with when discussing reading the Bible. (It just didn't seem to want to click in my brain.) This book engaged me at the start and kept me till the end. It does a great job laying this out on the table for us to see. From now on, I will stop reading and start trying to converse with the authors.
